| Exploring Local History:
Researching the Past 100 Years |
C3727172 |
| We shall be celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the "Lloyd George's Little Domesday Book" and this will be included as part of the primary sources to be examined about a small area of Upper Deal. We hope to study other major topics during this period such as the First and Second Great Wars and the growth of the mining industry around Deal.
Research methods will be discussed with ways to unlock the wealth of information stored in Archives. Suitable for all levels of interest, knowledge and research experience. We hope to mount an exhibition in the locality at the end of the course.

Defending Kent? |
C3727173 |
| Beginning in the Iron Age we shall study of hilltop enclosures of Bigbury and Oldbury, moving on to study the Roman forts at Reculver, Richborough and Lympne. Centuries later came the Norman castles and their evolution - plenty to look at in Kent.
So who built the forts and castles of Kent - and why? Were they solely defensive or were they high status homes? The course concludes with a study of the building of castles by Henry VIII - specifically Deal and Walmer.
