Imagination, emotion and freedom! The focal points of Romanticism and the hallmarks of the great works we will look at, written in this turbulent period as Britain emerges into the industrial world. By treating six authors and their works - Jane Austen, Mary Shelley, Mary Hays, Ann Radcliffe, Horace Walpole and James Hogg - as subjects worthy of close examination, we will see the novel developing as the dominant form of literature during this period.
